Dr. Artus Huffman has dedicated his life to service as a veteran, educator, school leader, and community advocate. His experiences have shaped his belief that strong communities depend on opportunity, accountability, safe neighborhoods, strong public schools, and a government that listens to the people it serves.

Art, as his friends call him, has spent his career working with students, educators, and families to improve achievement, safety, and engagement. These experiences give him a clear understanding of the challenges facing Maryland families and the need for public policy that reflects real community concerns.

Family is central to his life. Married for 28 years, he and his wife are the proud parents of three children, including one with special needs. This has strengthened his commitment to advocating for individuals with disabilities and supporting caregivers.

Art is a proud United States Army veteran who served in the airborne infantry and retired as a Sergeant (E5). He approaches public service with a deep sense of duty, accountability, and commitment. He earned a B.A. from Morgan State University, an M.Ed. from Grand Canyon University, and a Ph.D. from Capella University with a specialization in Special Education. These experiences shaped a leadership philosophy grounded in inclusion, opportunity, and responsive government.

As a Democratic candidate for the Maryland House of Delegates in District 6, he is committed to strengthening public education, improving community safety, expanding economic opportunity, supporting families and veterans, and ensuring District 6 families receive the attention and resources they deserve.
